CELTIC, Central Europe. Vindelici. 1st century BC. Stater (Subaeratus, 17 mm, 4.93 g), 'Rolltier' type. Convex surface with a dragon-like animal with the body of a serpent ('Rolltier') rolled up to left. Rev. Three pellets within torque with pellet at each end; all within shallow incuse. Dembski -, cf. 441-446 (six pellets and not plated). Flesche -, cf. 284-286 (six pellets and not plated). Karl -, 230-235 (six pellets and not plated). LT -, cf. 9421 (six pellets and not plated). This looks like a bronze coin at first glance, but it is in fact the core of a once plated stater, with only a few parts of the original plating still intact.
